Question:
My water pump stopped working and it cost a lot more to get it fixed compared to previous times when it was replaced. My NORWALK technician said it’s because of where it’s located. Why is that?

Some water pumps are powered by the serpentine belt and are attached openly with the alternator and air compressor. Some water pumps are powered by the timing belt. These water pumps are difficult to get to and change because it requires a lot of work. I think the water pump in your car is powered by the belt that controls the timing.

Water pumps are basic machines that move engine coolant/antifreeze through the engine and to the radiator. Just like any machine, they eventually stop working properly. Although having a cooling system service done on schedule at East Ave Automotive LLC will extend the life of your water pump and its seals and gaskets, it will eventually fail and need to be replaced.

The water pumps connected to the timing belt are directly connected to the engine block. The timing belt system has a cover that keeps it safe. The serpentine belt and all the things it powers are on top of the cover that protects the timing belt. So to reach the water pump, you have to take off many pieces, and those pieces have to be put back on after.

When the water pump needs to be changed at East Ave Automotive LLC in NORWALK, it is recommended to replace the timing belt, timing belt tensioner, and idler pulleys at the same time. First, the timing belt might have been affected by coolant leaking. Second, there is a recommended time to replace the timing belt, so it’s a good idea to do it when everything is already taken apart to avoid paying for the same labor again in the future.

Also, remember that if you are changing your timing belt when you should, it would be a good idea to also change the water pump at the same time.
